How Does Your Email Look in their Inbox?

Leverage Preview Text for the Best First Impression

If they never open it, does your email make an impression? Adding custom Preview Text is one of the ways Eloqua can help you boost open rates, returning engagement in exchange for your email creation time and effort. Adding Preview Text (instead of leaving it blank) provides more context, grabs attention, and prevents the default display of email HTML/links (which are definitely not as visually appealing as text or graphics). You can even add emoji in this field.

Here’s a little more detail on using that Preview Text field:

  • Most email clients display an email in the inbox with preview text. Preview text typically displays beneath the sender and subject line and can help quickly convey the content of an email. If it gets left blank, the view-on-the-web link or tracking pixel URL will show in the recipient’s inbox first.
  • The preview (sometimes referred to as a “pre-header”) text only appears in a recipient’s email inbox. It does not appear anywhere in the email once it is opened.
  • Preview text is not supported the same way by all email clients. Be sure to test your preview text using your target email clients.
  • The length of Preview Text supported varies by email client and can vary depending on the length of the subject line. The email client could support text between 35 to 120 characters.
